Who are you here for — your child or yourself?
(NOTE: Class information for children and teens is available below the adult class section.)
Adults don’t come to training for the same reasons — and that’s intentional.
Some are looking for stress relief and focus.
Others want to feel physically capable again.
Many are drawn to the depth and structure of a traditional Japanese martial art.
At Genbukan Futen Dojo, adult training is designed to meet people where they are and help them build calm confidence, physical capability, and long-term resilience through structured practice.

The Proven Advantage of Our Martial Arts...
Not competition. Not sport. Not hype.
The martial arts taught at Genbukan Futen Dojo come from traditional Japanese systems developed for real life — not tournaments.
Rooted in Ninpō, the source of Japanese martial traditions, this training has been refined for over a thousand years to build awareness, composure, and decisive action under pressure.
Traditional Japanese Jujutsu reflects this approach:
short, efficient responses… balance over force… control over chaos.
Traditional Weapons Training — Rare by Design
Authentic Japanese weapons training is rarely taught outside the Genbukan headquarters in Japan. At the Futen Dojo, it is offered only through limited enrollment classes and occasional seminars.
The sword is the mind; the mind is the sword.
Weapons training is not about combat or display. It is a discipline that sharpens focus, control, and presence in a way few other practices can.
Students often experience:
Heightened concentration and mental clarity
Greater composure under pressure
Improved posture, timing, and coordination
This is deep mind–body training, reserved for students ready to train with seriousness and respect.
Children & Teen Martial Arts Programs
Children’s Classes (Ages 8–13)
Structured. Encouraging. Purposeful.
This program is designed for a key stage of development — when focus, confidence, and self-control are still forming.
Rather than chaotic activity or competition, classes follow a clear, predictable structure that helps children feel secure, challenged, and successful.
Parents value this program because children develop:
-
-
Confidence through earned progress
-
-
-
Improved listening and focus
-
-
-
Stronger self-discipline and emotional control
-
-
-
Positive ways to channel energy
-
-
-
Practical, age-appropriate self-protection skills
-
Children stay engaged — not overstimulated — in an environment that balances effort, encouragement, and respect.
Teen Program (Ages 14–17)
Serious Training for a Critical Stage of Growth
Teenagers are no longer “little” children — and they benefit from being treated that way.
Teens train alongside adults in our regular classes, allowing them to experience higher standards, stronger role models, and a more mature training environment. They also have greater flexibility and control over their training schedules.
This program provides real challenge, clear expectations, and meaningful responsibility during an important stage of identity and self-respect development.
Teen training emphasizes:
-
-
Physical confidence and coordination
-
-
-
Self-discipline under pressure
-
-
-
Accountability and follow-through
-
-
-
Respectful peer interaction
-
-
-
Progress that is earned, not given
-
This is not a little kids’ class and not a casual drop-in activity.
Teens are expected to show effort — and they rise to it.
Parents often tell us this becomes one of the few environments where their teen is both challenged and genuinely supported.
Why Families Choose This Approach
Both programs share the same foundation:
-
-
Traditional instruction
-
-
-
Clear structure
-
-
-
Calm, focused training
-
-
-
Long-term personal development
-
Children and teens are placed into the right environment for their age and readiness — never rushed or lumped together.

The Genbukan & KJJR
Sadly in America, anybody can buy a black belt and open a martial arts school. However in Japan and many other countries, the regulations are much more strict and the standards much higher. – All of the instructors at the Genbukan Futen Dojo are internationally certified by two of most respected organizations in Japan: Genbukan World Ninpo Bugei Federation (genbukan = home of the martial arts professional) & Kokusai Jujutsu Renmei (kokusai = international, renmei = federation)
Headed by legendary Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura, both organizations have branches on the Asian, North American, South American, African and Australian continents offering the highest quality martial arts training available anywhere.
